The Bike Ride Continues for Kate's Kause
Now entering its third year, the Kate's kause cycling team has always managed to round up a small but consistent group to bike for the cause. What is it that keeps these sportsmen coming out year after year? "Its hard to say if you're not a cyclist" laughed organizer Joe Meissner. "Once you get that bug, it's hard to let go. It's easy to go for an hour-long bike ride, or three hour-long bike ride. ... This year the team has partnered with Pinacle Health and Fitness for a four-week training fund-raising "boot camp" in Gibson Park (Elmira). [Everyone is welcome to attend and the cost is only a donation to Kate's Kause.] The boot camp takes place every Monday in June at 7pm in Gibson Park.... [read more...] |
Hop on your bike and ride ... for a good kause.
Charity and cycling go together like gears and pant legs. For the second year running, Elmira resident Joe Meissner is leading the Kate's Kause Cycling Team for the Centurion Canada bike race at Blue Mountain, to raise money for Elmira's accesible playground. Now he's looking for new members to strap on their helmets and pedal for a cause.
"We did it wil 20 riders last year, an we raised nearly $7,000," said Meissner. "so it was a good turnout for last year, and this year we already have 20 people who are interested, so hopefully we get a few more into it."... [read more...] |
Family’s mission to aid the disabled admirably fulfilled
When their daughter Kate was born in June 2009, Kelly and Jeremy Meissner, of Elmira, could not have known the positive impact that they, as a family, would have on a small community.
Kate was born with Angelman’s syndrome, a rare neurogenetic disorder that affects sleep, and verbal and motor skills. But Kelly was determined to see that her daughter had access to the same opportunity as other children. Specifically, the opportunity to experience the joy of playing with other children and benefiting from the power of that interaction and the learning that arises from that interplay.

It’s all about preparation as team gets ready to rideThe fundraising is still going strong for Kate’s Kause charity.
While the all-accessible playground has been built and children from across the township have enjoyed the swings, slides and playground equipment for weeks, there are still a few key components that were missing from the build, including a water element and sensory wall. It is the sensory wall that Joe and Fred Meissner are fundraising for with a scheduled 80-kilometre bike race in September. The father-son duo have been training and recruiting team members to compete in the Centurion bike race at Blue Mountain from Sept. 14-16. The sensory wall will be a sculpture roughly 10 feet long and seven feet high. Within the wall there will be numerous animal carvings ... [more...] Woolwich Observer Saturday August 3rd 2012 |
Going the Distance for a Good Kause
Fred and Joe Meissner shouldn’t have any problem digging deep for motivation to train for an 80-kilometre bike race in September. The father-son duo have formed a cycling team to raise funds for their granddaughter and niece Kate Meissner, and her charity Kate’s Kause, which is building an all-accessible playground in Elmira’s Gibson Park. “We’re hoping to get 25 riders on our team and they’re going to be asked to raise a minimum donation and then go and do the ride,” said Joe. “We’ll donate all those proceeds to Kate’s Kause.” Headed by Kelly Meissner, the charity is named after her young daughter Kate ...
