I still cannot get over how well organized this event is, how inviting the venue is, how enjoyable the entire experience is. I loved watching Maria and the rest of the kids ride and I'm sure we'll get a few more participating in the years to come.
As for my ride, I was very happy with the way I rode this year. The hills are definitely the most challenging part (followed by the wind), but I found that since we rode as a team, there seemed to be enough encouragement for us all the get to the top or cut through the wind--to just keep going. I have to admit that because you and I rode Grey Rd. 19 on Saturday, it did a world of good for me. Psychologically, knowing what it takes to make it up that first climb before ride day, made the climb that much more "doable". As well, I thought we looked downright "professional" as a team--great job on the jerseys! I had lots of comments and questions, and our goal to raise awareness about Angelman's certainly happened. On that note, I also have to say how much I appreciated Jerry and Trisha's help on the weekend. It was great to have a place to gather, and wonderful to have people spread the word about our "kause".
The best part of the ride (and I'd be interested in knowing other people's opinions) was the fact that we got to end on Grey Rd. 19. For me, descending that hill makes any pain or suffering on the ride worthwhile--I hope they don't change that part of the route. I may have aged a few years over the first 70 or so kilometers, but I turn back into a kid again flying down that last stretch.
Thanks to all of the "Kate's Kause" team and the families for a great weekend and a great ride day
